This message is to all Y’s Men from our eight Areas: Africa, Asia, Canada/Caribbean,
Europe, India, Latin America, South Pacific and USA.
Welcome to the 69th International Convention (IC10) to be held in the historic
and beautiful Japanese city of Yokohama from 5th to 8th August 2010.
The International Convention Committee (ICC) which I am privileged to chair
is working closely with the Host Convention Committee (HCC).
The HCC under the humble leadership of IPEE Hirotoshi Fujii has been working
round the clock to ensure that all delegates who will attend the 69th International
Convention will find it to be full of fulfilment, friendship, fun and fellowship.
Each delegate attending the IC2010, the International Youth Convocation and the Y’s Menette events will find the programmes to be an unforgettable experience.
The displays, exhibitions, entertainment, recreation, speeches, forums and other convention activities have been designed to make delegates feel the scintillating atmosphere of being a valued member of a global family.
Come to IC 2010 with the whole family. Come and experience the famed Japanese warmth, supreme hospitality, delicious cuisine, age old heritage and rich culture.

The Japan East and the Japan West Regions are now preparing for the 69th IC in Yokohama, Japan under the leadership of PIP Toshiro Takeuchi, Honorary Chairperson It is 22 years since the impressive 58th IC was held in Kyoto, Japan in 1988.
The primary feature of the Yokohama IC is the appeal to tackle the improvement of the earth’s environment. The theme of the Yokohama IC will be “From Our Hands, We pass Nature’s Torch” in addition to the 2010－11 IP’s theme. It is because we believe that the environmental issues are one of the main challenges that we have to tackle now in order to establish a better world for all the human beings, which is our common goal. We wish to have this theme permeated in all the programs together with the theme of the IP, and think about it with all of you.
But the pleasure of the International Convention is, more than anything else, to have the Y’s Men of the world get together in one place and confirm, warm up and promote our friendship in order to make our movement a more fruitful one.
Let me introduce Yokohama. It is the first port which was opened to foreign countries after the 250 year isolation under the Tokugawa Shogunate. This year happens to be the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port to foreigners. We met the aliens with fear and doubt then, but this time we welcome you with joy and hope. It has the population of over 3 million: the 3rd biggest city in Japan. Yokohama is very conveniently situated. It takes only 90 minutes to get to the Convention site direct by bus from Narita Tokyo International Airport. It is 30 minutes to the center of Tokyo by train, and only an hour to Mt. Fuji and Hakone, a famous spa. You can also get to Kyoto, the famous old capital of Japan in 2 hours by Shinkansen, the bullet train.
Some of you still talk to us of the fond memories of the Kyoto IC. We are preparing to make the coming Yokohama IC the most impressive and fruitful IC in your Y’s life. Please talk to your club members and Y’s Men around you to join the Yokohama IC. We promise that your expectations will never be betrayed.

ワイズメンズクラブ第６９回横浜国際大会開催によせて

国際大会は、２年に一度世界中のワイズメンが一堂に会し、相互啓発と国際交流が行われる場です。
２０１０年開催の第６９回国際大会の開催地に横浜が選ばれたことは、日本のワイズメンにとって大いなる名誉であるとともに、国際大会開催の準備、運営を通じて、私たちの運動を活性化させる素晴らしいチャンスです。
日本では過去２回国際大会を開催いたしましたが、何れのときもこれを契機として日本のワイズメンズクラブ運動は大きく飛躍してきました。
内外からの期待に応え、楽しく、実り多い最高の大会にするとともに、私達の運動の成長、人材育成、ＹＭＣＡやユースとの連携強化、さらには社会的認知度を高める機会としたいと思います。
東・西日本区全員のご参加を期待し、また、準備、運営へのご協力をどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
なお、「『いのち』未来への継承 ―私たちの地球のためにー」という身近で大切なことを大会テーマといたしました。
大会をきっかけとし、ワイズメンとして、ワイズメンズクラブとして地球環境のために何ができるかを考え、実行に移していただければ幸いです。
１９８８年の京都大会以来２２年ぶりの日本での国際大会です。
日本のワイズのすばらしさを世界に示すと共に遠来のワイズメンとの交わりを深め、国際組織のすばらしさを実感しましょう。そしてワイズに対する更なる夢を膨らませましょう。皆さんが主役です。
